New compositions for the controlled and prolonged volatilisation of a pyrethroid insecticide contain a mixture of at least one pyrethroid insecticide and at least one volatilisation modifying agent. Addition of volatilisation-modifying agents lowers vapour pressure of the pyrethroid preventing premature decomposition, so that evaporation from electrically heated volatilisation devices can be extended for e.g. 8 hrs., thus ensuring continuous insecticidal effect. Typical pyrethroid insecticides include 3-allyl-2-methyl-cyclopent-2-en-4-on-1-yl dl-cis/trans-chrysanthemate and 5-(2-propargyl)-furfuryl dl-cis/trans-chrysanthemate. Typical volatilisation-modifying agents include butyl stearate, didecyl adipate, ethylene glycol benzoate and tricresyl phosphate. |
