titleOfInvention | SYNTHESIS OF ALKYLALPHA CYANACRYLATES |
abstract | Synthesis of alpha-cyanoacrylic esters (I) of the formula CH2=C(CN)-COOR (in which R is 1-12C alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl, (un)substd. benzyl or an aromatic gp.) comprises catalytic condensn. of cyanoacetic esters with (para)formaldehyde, opt. in soln. in organic solvents. The catalyst used is a salt having an anion acting as Lewis base and is added, before and/or during the reaction, in solid form on in any solvent. Pref. synthesis is at pH 3.0-12.0, pref. 6.0-7.8. The salt is p repd. by reacting the appropriate metal base with the corresp. acid(s) in not only equiv. ratio and is added in an amt. of 0.0001-0.1 mole % w.r.t. the cyanoacetic ester. The salt is derived from an (in)organic acid and pref. is an alkali (Na or K) tetraborate and/or metal (Mn(II)or Ca) acetate, opt. with an addn. of boric and/or acetic acid. (I) obtd. have improved stability and purity and excellent adhesive properties. |
