abstract New cyclopropanecarboxylic acid esters are of formula (I) (where R1 and R2 are H, CH3 or Cl; R3 and R4 are H or CH3; and n is 2 or 3). (I) are pesticides active against a wide range of pests, partic. useful as acaricides and insecticides. They show good activity against Dysdercus fasciatus, Tenebrio molitor, the spider mite Tetranychus urticae the ticks Rhipicephalus bursa and Boophilus microplus, and Spodoptera littoralis. Specific cpds. (I) include 2-(4-phenyltio)phenoxy)ethyl cyclopropanecarboxylate. In an example, this was prepd. by reacting 2-(4-(phenylthio)phenoxy)ethanol in anhydrous benzene with cyclopropanecarboxylic acid chloride in the presence of triethylamine.
