titleOfInvention | DIACYLOXYIC ACIDS DERIVED FROM THE ACID-S AND THE PROCESS FOR THEIR PRODUCTION |
abstract | New derivs. of "Acid S" are cpds. of formula (I) in which Y is an acyl residue derived from formic acid or from a 3-7C alkylcarboxylic acid. (I) are diacyloxy derivs. of the antibiotic "Acid S" produced by Polyangium cellulosum var. fulvum (ATCC 25532) and can be used as agents against fungi (including Histoplasma capsulatum and Microsporum fulvum) and gram-positive fungi). They can be used for the treatment of bacterial infections and of dermatophytic and systemic fungal infections. The minimal inhibitory concsn. of (I) against fungi in tube dilution tests are of the order of 50 to 1.56 mcg/ml. The minimal inhibitory concn. against Streptococcus pyogenes is 25 - 6.25 mcg/ml. Specific cpds. (I) include that in which Y is formyl (acid S diformate). In an example, this is prepd. by treating a soln. of acid S (118mg) in dimethylformamide (DMF) (1ml) at 0 degrees under N2 with triphenylphosphine (262mg) and Br2 (160 mg) in DMF (2.5ml) and standing 3 days at 0 degrees. |
