titleOfInvention METHOD FOR TREATING A LUMINOUS SURFACE
abstract The powdered luminophore (a) is mixed with a lead-free glass forming oxide and/or salt mixt., (b), followed by heating (c) in which impurities are picked up by the glass phase, which is then removed. Heating (c) is pref. at 100-1000 degrees C, esp. 350-450 degrees C., for 1/4-4 h., esp. 1 hr.; and mixt. (b) is pref. B2O3, V2O5, K2CO3, Na2CO3; or K2CO3, Na2CO3, Na2H4O7, ZnO; other oxide mixts.; or NaCl, ZnCl2, K4P2O7, Na4P2O7; and a glass solder may be added to mixt. (b). The pref. wt. ratio (R) of a:b is between 6:1 and 2:1, esp. 5:1 to 3:1. The luminophors (a) are pref. pretreated by wet chemical methods; and are e.g. ZnCdS:Cu; ZnS:Ag; Y2O5S:Eu; Y2O2S:Sm; La2O2S:Eu:or Gd2O2S:E. Used for recovery of luminophors for use in cathode ray tubes, where the invention removes silicates, borates, phosphoates and/or heavy metals.
