titleOfInvention METHOD FOR PRODUCING GELATINE
abstract Gelatin is prepd. by treating pork rinds with HCl or H2SO4. After acidification, non-consumed acid is discharged. MOST acid still present is washed out in several washes with water. After >=2-3 washes, the acid diffusing from rinds int water is neutralised continuously pref. at pH 4.5-5.5 to prevent turbidity of gelatin soln. The salt-contg. wash water is discharged. After washing several times with water the gelatin is melted out with hot water. Neutralising agents are pref. NH3 gas, NH3 water, NH4 carbonates, oxides, hydroxides, carbonates and bicarbonates of Na, K, Ca and Mg. Acidification and washing are reduced from 48- to 24 hrs., i.e. washing capacity is doubled and washing water is saved, leading to a reduction in waste water and to saving w.r.t. water and waste water processing.
