titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF 8-HYDROXYCHINOLINE |
abstract | 8-Hydroxy-quinoline is obtd. by reacting quinoline-8-sulphonic acid with alkali hydroxide in a medium contg. hexamethyl-phosphoric acid triamide, in a heterogeneous reaction at 130-220 degrees C, without pressure. The 8-hydroxy-quinoline is then isolated from the reaction medium by separating off pptd. salts, distilling the solvent, taking up in water and precipitating at pH 6.6-6.8. The 8'-hydroxy-quinoline is obtd. as an analytically pure cpd., which does not darken in air. Yields are between 85-94%. |
