abstract A coloured material for ribbons for typewriters and similar office machines or for carbon paper consists of a porous polymer layer, either self-supporting or on a carrier, in which the dye is embedded. The porous layer is formed by applying a polymer soln. contg. an absorbent inorganic filler, evaporating the solvent by heating, and impregnating the layer with the dye compsn. after solidification. The dye is not subjected to heat. Small amts. of materials of different colours, or of multi-coloured materials, can be produced easily and economically. The material may be transported and stored in uncoloured state, and be dyed just before it is supplied to the user.
