titleOfInvention | CALCIUM SULPHATE WHISKER |
abstract | Calcium sulphate whiskers with a ratio(R) of length:average cross-section of min. 6:1 are used as a filler and/o rreinforcing material in rubber mixts. The whiskers are obtd. from a hot, aq., acid soln. contg. CaSO4, and which is free from crystal nuclei; the soln. is cooled to 65-40 degrees C., and held at this temp. until the saturation concn. is reached, so the whiskers crystallise out and are sepd. from the soln. Cross-linked-, and/or non-cross-linked- natural and/or synthetic rubbers may be used, esp. using 1-150 pts. calcium sulphate whiskers per 100 pts. rubber. The whiskers include calcium sulphate hydrate whiskers, and are normally 0.005-0.03 m thick with R pref. min. 20:1 and e.g. 100-160:1. They are used as fillers, opt. with glass- or asbestos-fibres, in coatings, foils, paper. cardboard etc. |
