Nucleosides of formula (I) are new: (where R1 is H or 1-4C alkyl. R2 is halo, or 2-6C alkyl (opt. branched), pref. ethyl or propyl. R3 is H or OH. R4 is H or organic acyl residue e.g. acetyl, propionyl, p-chlorobenzoyl, p-nitrobenzoyl, p-toluyl or benzyl (sic.). R5, R6 and R7 are H, 1-4C opt. branched alkyl, opt. substd. phenyl or benzyl. X is O or S). They are prepd. by reacting a 3,5-dihydroxy nucleoside with R5R6R7CHal and opt. R4Hal. (I) have virustatic activity, partic. against RNA viruses, esp. enteroviruses. They do not show the side effects of known virustatics. |
