Beta-Imidazolyl-ketones of formula (I) and their salts are new: (where R1 is 1-5C alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl or =7C bicycloalkyl; R2 is naphthyl or a phenyl gp. opt. substd. by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy or NO2). (I) are systemic fungicides, e.g. active against Erysiphe spp. on cereals and cucumbers, Uncinula necator on grapes, Podosphaera leucotricha on apples and Sphaerotheca fuliginea or roses. A typical cpd. is 1-(1-imidazolyl)-1-(p-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-3-pentanone. In an example, this is prepd. from 4,4-dimethyl-1-(p-chlorophenyl)-1-penten-3-one and imidazole. |
