titleOfInvention METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYALKYLENE POLYAMINES
abstract New polyalkylene polyamines with ethylene units (opt. with CH3 side-chains) and linear propylene units, and where the total number of units is >=3 of formula H2N-A-NH-A'-NH-(CH2)3- NH-A n NH2 (I) (where A and A' are -(CH2)2-, -CH(CH3)-CH2-, -CH2-CH(CH3)- or (CH2)3; and n is 0 or an integer, esp. 0-5) are prepd. by reacting a 2-hydroxyethyl- or 2-hydroxypropyl-propylene 1,3-diamine of formula HO-A'-NH-(CH2)3- NH-A nNH2 (II) with ethylene diamine, propylene 1,2- or 1,3-diamine and/or NH3 under hydrogenating conditions. New polyamines with 2C and 3C units can be obtd. without addn. of acids. The hydroxyethyl- and hydroxypropyl propylene diamines are easily available. Cyclic prods. of the homopiperazine type are not formed. (I) are used in place of known polyalkylene polyamines with uniform chain units, e.g. as flocculants, emulsion breakers and additives for mineral oils.
