titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF BRENTED CATECHIN CARBAMATES
abstract Prepn. of pyrocatechol derivs. of formula (I) (where R' and R2 are each H or 1-4C alkyl; R3 and R4 are each H, halogen or 1-4C alkyl; R5 is 1-4C alkyl; X is halogen, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy; and n is 0, 1 or 2) by (a) reacting an opt. substd. pyrocatechol of formula (II) with phosgene in the presence of 0.1-10 mol % of a catalyst to give a pyrocatechol carbonate of formula (III); (b) reacting (III) with an amine HNR1R2 (IV) to give a carbamate of formula (V); (c) (V) with an alpha-halogether of formula (VI) in the presence of a tert. amine to give (I). Steps (a), (b), and (c) are all in the presence of a dipolar aprotic solvent and the steps follow one after the other without isolating the intermediate prods. formed. (I) is used as an insecticide and as a plant protecting agent.
