titleOfInvention | METHODS AND MEANS OF CONTROLLING INSECTS |
abstract | Compsns. for controlling insects of the genera Ips and Porthetria contain an enantiomer (I) of a cpd. which is an attractant for the species in question. (I) is distributed into the atmos. over the appropriate area, pref. to a concn. >=10 times that of the natural attractant, so as to interrupt or destroy chemical communication between the insects. For Ips species (R)-cis-verbenol (Ia) is used and for Porthetria species (758R)-(-)-disparlur (Ib). The insects are made to find mates and to congregate at feeding points. Standard insecticides are unnecessary so pollution is avoided. |
