titleOfInvention | GLASS ELECTRODE |
abstract | Glass electrode for measuring the oxidn. potential of liq. media consists of a tubular housing of high-ohmic glass, with a probe hermetically sealed to one end and connected to a lead inside the tube. The probe consists of electrically conductive glass (I) contg. silica and alkali metal oxides and also oxides of Ti(III) and Ti(IV) and also Nb(V) and/or Ta(V). (I) has the compsn. 32-45 (wt.) pts. SiO2, 7.0-26 pts. Me2O (in which Me is Li, Na, K), 16-40 pts. TiO2, 0.8-4.2 pts. Ti2O3 and 20-32 pts., Nb2O5 and/or Ta2O5. The electrode is useful in continuous process control in the chemical, cellulose, paper, textile, pharmaceutical, microbiological and hydrometallurgical industries. Oxidn. potentials of 700-1250 mV (w.r.t. a standard hydrogen electrode) can be measured in solns. with pH 0.5-14 at 0-150 degrees C in the presence of dissolved oxygen, hydrogen and catalytic poisons. |
