A soluble polymeric metal complex comprises a transition Gp. IB, VIIB or VIIIB metal ion bonded covalently to a tetra-dentate polymer ligand. The metal ion has >=1 other ligand bonded axially to it and the polymer may be natural or (semi)-synthetic. Pref. polymers are water soluble having functional NH2, OH or carboxy gps. e.g. polyethers e.g. polyethylene glycol, dextrans, chemically modified proteins, polysaccharides, polyamino acids, PVA, PVP, polyurethanes, poly(meth)acrylic acid, polyethylene imine etc. The complexes can be used as reversible oxygen carriers to improve the oxygen concn. of solns. They may be used as blood substitute, in fuel cells, oxidation reactions as catalysts and in oxygen production. |
