abstract The delay mechanism is used for delayed arming of an ignition fuse. The fuse is used for mines and the delay ensures that the charge is not ignited until certain safety distance has been covered. The delay time remains constant even if the ambient temp. varies. A housing contains >=2 bodies made e.g. from iron III chloride hydrate and zinc sulphate hexahydrate. These cpds., are sepd. and they contact under press. after the partition is removed. These cpds. will change into liq. state after a specified time. This enables a plunger to move and to initiate any kind of actuating movement. These cpds. can be initially granular, powder or solid blocks such as cylinders or polygons.
