titleOfInvention AMPHOTERIC SURFACE-ACTIVE PREPARATIONS OR LINKS
abstract Amphoteric surfactants are of formula (I): In the formula, R and R1 are 1-22C alkyl gps. with R+R1 = 7C, R2 and R3 are each H or CH3; n is integer 1-50. Q is -CH2-CH(R2)-. L is -CH2-CH(R3)-. Y is OH, (II), (II): m'=Q) or (II:M=M'=Q). p is integer 1, m'=M is cationic metal equiv. Z is OH, (II), (II:m'=L) or (II:M'=M=L). X is a halogen, sulphate or alkylsulphate. (I) have good surface active, antistatic and cleaning activity, are tolerated well by the skin and cause no noticeable irritation to the skin or eyes. They tolerate the presence of chlorine bleaches better than phosphates of ethoxylated amines; can be used in hard water; and are easily biodegradable (I) are e.g. used in shampoos lubricants; rust inhibitors; corrosion inhibitors; and cleaning agents.
