abstract | A topical compsn. comprises as active agent a mixt. of a corticosteroid and a xanthine cpd. in wt. ratio 10:1-1:5. Pref. the xanthine cpd. is present as a salt and is esp. caffeine (i.e. 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine). The compsns. are antiinflammatories and antipruritics, useful in treatment of eczema, skin hypersensitivity, sunburn, insect bites etc. The usual side-effects of corticosteroids are absent and the compsn. is synergistic. A typical compsn. comprised 1.0g micron bed hydrocortisone, 1.0g micronised caffeine, 3.0 g lanolin, 0.25g cetylstearyl alcohol, 45.55, white petroleum jelly, 0.2gpropyl p-hydroxybenzoate and 49.0g water. |
