abstract | alpha-Aminobenzylpenicillins (I), are prepd. by forming a soln. of 6-aminopenicillanic acid (III) or one of its water-soluble salts, removing solid contaminants from the soln. and mixing it with a mixed anhydride acylating agent in soln. at -50 degrees C and from which solid contaminants had also been removed, and then recovering the (I). Provides better yields of purer (I), esp. of ampicillin, which are broad-spectrum antibacterials. |
