Smooth textile materials are composed of an 'aramide' carrier consisting of a polyamide built from aromatic ring cpds., coated on the surface with fluorinated hydrocarbons, polyimides or polyester-ureas. Pref. carrier materials are of poly-meta phenylenediamine-iso-phthalamide or poly-para-phenyleneterephthalamide. The coating may be e.g. of a polyimide from pyromellitic acid or anhydride and a diamine such as 4,41-diaminophenylether; a fluorinated hydrocarbon such as a copolymer of polyfluoroethylene and polypropylene, PTFE, polyvinylfluoride, etc.; or a polyester-urea, polyethylene terephthalate, etc. The coated fabrics are resistant to environmental influences and can be used e.g. as tank linings and in the prodn. of inflatable life rafts and boatds, balloons, airships, etc. The fabrics are flexible and (depending on the combination of carrier and coating) resistant to temps. of -200 to +250 degrees C. |
