titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE ALKYLATION OF UNSATURATED CARBON COMPOUNDS WITH ALKYL HALOGENIDES AND / OR OLEFINS |
abstract | Alkylation of unsatd. hydrocarbons with alkyl halides and/or olefins, using a catalyst system of Bronsted acid and a metal halide which is converted to an inactive form during the process. Progress of the alkylation and deactivaton processes are controled by varying the concn. and material flow to achieve optimum yield of the required alkylation prod. Formation of unwanted highly-alkylated prods. can be avoided without use of a large excess of the original hydrocarbon, e.g. benzene, or recycling of highly-alkylated prods. which causes unwanted side-reactions, esp. when higher olefines or alkyl halides are used. Reduced amts. of catalyst can be used and distn. of the prod. is simplified. FeCl3 is a selective and mild catalystm which does not promote isomerisation reactions, and is pptd. as FeCl2 which can be filtered off. |
