| abstract | Motor fuels of normal or super grade, consists of mixts. of petrol and methanol, with addn. of isopropanol and motor oil. The proportion of isopropanol used is pref. equal to that of methanol, while the proportion of motor oil is pref. 10% that of methanol. Phase sepn. into petrol and aq. methanol layers in presence of condensed water in storage or vehicle fuel tanks is prevented. No change to the petrol engine, e.g. replacement of plastics or synthetic rubber components, ie required since a protective film is formed on them which prevents attack by methanol. Amt. of freely-available methanol in the fuel can be increased. |
