titleOfInvention LIQUID OR SEMI-SOLID MEDICINAL FORMS OR COSMETIC PREPARATIONS
abstract New liq. or semisolid oily bases or suspensions for medicaments or cosmetic prepsn. contain 1% dissolved oxygen, being otherwise satd. with an inert gas. The prepns. are produced by heating the oily bases or suspensions to 30-100 degrees C (before or after the addn. of active ingredients and, possibly, adjuvants), substantially removing dissolved oxygen by evacuation, subsequently saturating with an inert gas, and cooling to room temp. while stirring in an inert gas atmos. Replacement of most or all of the dissolved oxygen by an inert gas is a cheap and technically simple method of protecting oxygen-sensitive components against decomposition and in many cases avoids the need for antioxidants. An example describes the prodn. of oxyphenbutazone oily suspension in which the content of dissolved oxygen is less than 0.1%, the remainder having been replaced by N2.
