titleOfInvention TREATMENT OF EXHAUST FLOWS
abstract The gas is fed with molecular O2 over solid catalysts contg a noble metal from gp. VIII. The noble metal is pref. Pt or Pdused on a catalyst carrier of alumina, corundum, porcelain, silica, natural or synthetic silicates, quartz, or TiO2, esp. alumina or lithium-aluminium-spinel. The operating pressure is pref. 0.1-1000 bars, esp. 5-500 bars, the operating temp. being 200-750 degrees C and esp. 230-500 degrees C used in conjunction with an operating press. of 100-250 bars. The gas being treated may be a residual gas contg. acetic acid as the organic cpd., and the gas may also contain max. 95 vol.% water vapour. Used, e.g. in mfg. cyclohexanol from cyclohexane, or in mfg. dyes where boric acid is used as a catalyst in a Friedel-Craft reaction. Unwanted organic cpds. are converted to CO2 and H2O.
