titleOfInvention COMPOSITE SEMI-PERMEABLE MEMBRANES AND THE PROCESS FOR THEIR PRODUCTION
abstract Membrane is prepd. by reacting (a) a film-forming polymer with a monomer able to cross-link the polymer, for a time calculated to form an ultra-thin cross-linked polymer film having semi-permeable props. Grafted onto the polymer, as part of this film-forming operation is an effective amt. of a reactant able to cause an addn. to reactive positions under the conditions of reaction such that the final film contains very few residual active positions which can undergo oxidising attack or soiling. Used for reverse osmosis, the membrane has good salteretension properties with a satisfactory water throughout, and high stability against fall in quality.
