W. gelatine and/or maleic acid anhydride copolymers which contain at least one unit of formula (where M=H, alkali metal or NH4 ion, and R1=1-38C alkyl alkyl, 7-38C aralkyl, 2-38C alkoxyalkyl or an alkali metal atom) (B) ciliric acid, particles, and (C) at least one 1,3-dihydroxybenzene (which may be unsubstd. or substd. with one or more 1-3C alkyl, 1-3C alkoxy gps., halogen atoms or OH gps.). Pref. (C) is resorcinol, orcinol or phloroglucinol. The compsn. is used to form under-coats on polyester film, esp. for obtaining good adhesion between a photographic emulsion layer and a polyester carrier. |
