titleOfInvention SHAPED GRAPHITE COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING IT
abstract Graphite composite having an apparent density of 1.6-2.6g/cm3, a densification coefft. of 1.7-1.9, and a tensile strength of 160-250 kg/cm2, is produced by mixing graphite expanded 5-400 times in the c-direction with 1-60 wt.% (w.r.t. the expanded graphite) of oxidised graphite ('graphite oxide' or 'graphite acid') having an atomic C:O ratio of 2.4-3.5. The mixt. is moulded under a press. of 80-250 kg/cm2. Before the pressing, the mixt. can be opt. dried. Material has low densification coefft., high mechanical strength and flexibility, and can be formed under a relatively low press. There is no cracking tendency. The gas permeability is diminished.
