titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF ALKYL SULPHONIC ACIDS
abstract Alkylsulphonic acids are prepd. by oxidising alkyl mercaptans or dialkyl disulphides with hydrogen peroxide in an alkylsulphonic acid, no percarboxylic acids being present in the reaction medium. The rapid reaction gives excellent prod. yields. The prod. contains no impurities, apart from water and possibly unconverted raw materials, and can be used directly for many purposes. Pure anhydrous alkylsulphonic acids can be obtd. by simple distn. The prods. are used as strong, non-oxidising acids, solvents, and catalysts in alkylation, esterification and polymsn.
