titleOfInvention SYNTHESIS LEATHER BASE MATERIAL
abstract A synthetic leather with a water vapour uptake of 2-8 wt. % dry wt. of the leather, a tensile strength of 30-250 kg/cm2 and an elongation at break of 30-150%, is prepd. b y (a)impregnating a fibrous fleece with a rubber mixt. contg a heat sensitiser, a vulcanisation paste contg. a rapid-acting vulcanisation accelerator, and as pore-former either a silicone emulsion or an inert insoluble emulsifiable cpd., (b) coagulating the mixt. and (c) vulcanisation and drying. the vulcanisation paste contains 0.5-10 (5) pts. wt. ZnO, 0.2-10 (2) pts. S, 0.2-3 (1) pts. rapid-acting water-sol. accelerator, 0.2-3 (1) pts. water-insol. accelerator, 0.2-15 (5) pts. TiO2, 0.1-5(1) pts. dispersant and 10-50 (25) pts. water. The synthetic material has 70-80% of the water vapour uptake capacity of natural leather. The material can be made easily and reproducibly. Suitably the fleece may be of natural or synthetic fibres e.g. polyamides, polyesters, polypropylene, viscose or cellulose. The latex used for impregnation esp. contains natural rubber or an opt. carboxylated copolymer of butadiene with acrylonitrile, with styrene or with an acrylic ester, polychloroprene or polyisoprene.
