titleOfInvention LIQUID CRYSTAL SHIELD
abstract A liquid crystal shutter replaces the rotating sector shutter of a film camera or projector and thereby ensures against all mechanical faults. The liquid crystal material is enclosed between two glass or clear plastic surfaces within, in front of, or behind the lens and the opening and closing is controlled by pulsed control signals. The sensitive material may be a mesomorphic liquid crystal material which is opaque or transparent according to the voltage applied to a pair of electrodes between which the crystal film is located.
