abstract | New alkoxylated heterocyclic amides are of formula (I): In the formula R1 is H, 1-8C alkyl, 6-10C aryl, 1-4C alkoxy, aralkoxy or aryloxy; R2 is 1-4C alkylene; X is 1-4C alkoxy; and Y is H, 1-4C alkoxy; and Y is H, 1-4C alkoxy or 1-4C alkoxy, but cannot be H when R1 s alkoxy. Cpds. (I) can be prepd. by electrolysis of heterocyclic amides of formula (II) with a 1-4C alkanol in the presence of an alkali metal or tetraalkylammonium tetrafluoroborate hexafluorophosphate or nitrate, pref. at 0-60 degrees C using 4-5 Faradays per mole of (II): (where Y' is H, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy). Cpds. (I) are fungicides and intermediates for plant-protection agents and pharmaceuticals. They can be converted tion alpha, omega-diamino carboxylic acids and trimeric DELTA'-piperidines and 1-pyrroline (inters. for anticoagulants). In an example, 1-formyl-2-methoxypiperidine is prepd. by electrochemical alkoxylation of N-formylpiperidine with MEOH. |
