abstract Several applications of energy to the sample are carried out. Each ultrasonic emitter supplies two energy-concentrating heads - typically of aluminium - and each head is in contact with a chamber contg. part of the liquid sample - A communicating duct conveys the sample from one chamber to the other, so that the number of ultrasonic treatment stages through which the sample passes is twice the number of ultrasonic emitters. Pref. the sample is pumped continuously from one chamber to the other. Method is esp. for treatment of milk. The ultrasonic emitter may be piezoelectric or magnetostrictive.
