titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING IMPROVED WATER DILUTABLE PAINT BINDERS
abstract In the prepn. of water-soluble lacquer binders based on synthetic resins contg. OH gps. esp. those present in soln. inneutral or cationic form, the resin is reacted with 0.1-10 (0.5-5) wt.% boric or phosphoric acids as ortho-boric acid, their polyacids anhydrides or acid esters with 1-4C monohydric alcohols at 100-200 degrees C opt. with removal of the water formed, by azeotropic distn. Wetting properties of pigments by the resins, esp. by cationic resins, is improved much more than by usual mixts. e.g. with phosphoric acid, so that glossy films are obtained without special resin additives.
