titleOfInvention | METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING FLAME RESISTANT ELASTIC POLYTRIAZINE |
abstract | Elastic, flame-resistant P-contg. polytriazines claimed are prepd. by (a) condensing (i) aminophenols or di- or polyphenols having formula (HRN-R')nAr(OH)m (I) (where R is H or alkyl; R' is a covalent bond or opt. substd. alkylene; Ar is an aromatic gp. opt. interrupted by bridge members and n is 0, 1 or 2; m is 1,2,3 or 4, provided sum n+m 2) with (ii) an alkoxy (aroxy) phosphoric acid dihalide (II), opt. in the presence of a base. Mol. ratio (I):(II) is 2.1:1. Prepn. further comprises (b) reacting the free amino- or phenolic OH gps. with halogen cyanide in the presence of a base or base mixt. to form cyanamide - or cyanate ester gps. and (c) polytrimerising prepolymers from (b) at 350 (50-350) esp. 100-250 degrees C. Flame-resistant, high mol. wt. polytriazines obtd. are insoluble in solvents. Prepolymers can be used, either as solns. in inert solvents, or as powders, for coating metals, ceramics or glass or for prodn. of moulded articles or laminates. In organic solvents, prepolymers can be used as impregnating- or laminating resins. In an example, 0.1 mol. phenoxyphosphoryl dichloride and 0.2 mol. 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propane was condensed. Condensate was reacted with 0.23 mol. CICN. P-contg. cyanate resin was polymerised with Zn octoate as catalyst. |
