titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR GENERATING ELECTRONICALLY EXCITED OXYGEN (SINGULET OXYGEN)
abstract Electronically activated O2 (singlet O2) is produced by reacting diacylperoxides, esp. cyclic diacyl peroxides, in organic solvents, e.g. benzene, CHCl3, with acceptors for activated O2 (singlet O2 acceptors) e.g. 1:3-diphenyl-isobenzofuran, tetraphenyl-cyclopentadienone etc. Used in chemiluminescence and photo-oxidn. proceses. The above process is cheap and obviates the need for expensive U.V. light techniques. The reaction is rapid, the peroxides are cheap and easily obtainable and the yields are high, e.g. up to 70% of electronically activated O2.
