titleOfInvention | CLEANING AND PASSIVATION PASTE |
abstract | The paste contains (i) a mercaptan; (ii) a suspension agent; (iii) thiourea; and (iv) >=1 acid. The mercaptan is >=1 aromatic, heterocyclic mercaptan insol. in water or other polar solvent. The pref. mercaptan is 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (I) and/or 2-mercaptobenzthiazole (II), forming 0.5-5 wt.% of the finished paste. The paste pref. contains 1-20% diatomite, siliceous chalk, and/or Vienna lime; 2-20% thiourea; 0.1-2% amidosulphonic acid; 1-20% organic acid; 1-10% suspension agent; and a skin protective. Used e.g., on silver plates cutlery or ornaments. By using a paste, solids do not settle out; and the silver sulphide tarnish is very rapidly dissolved by chemical reactions; very little rubbing is required and the passive layer has a long life. |
