abstract The electrophotographic liq. developer comprises an electrically insulating vehicle contg. a vinylcarbazole (co)-polymer (I), having an electron-attracting substit. (II) with a Hammett constant of 0.01-0.8, as toner particles. (II) pref. is Cl, Br, I, CN, NO2 or -CHmX3-m) in which X is Cl, Br or I; m = 0, 1 or 2). The developer contg. negative toner particles, is stable, is not impaired by small amts. of other materials and can be kept for long periods and used repeatedly. The toner can have any colour and can be prepd. relatively easily.
