titleOfInvention | METHOD OF DISPROPORTION OF PROPYLENE |
abstract | Propylene disproportionation, to ethylene and 2-butene, takes place in liq. phase with a Mo oxide-Al2O3 catalyst, at -40 to 100 degrees C, under standard press. to 200 kg/cm2. Novelty is carrying out process in a solvent consisting of paraffin, cycloparaffin, and/or aromatic hydrocarbons. Solvent : propylene vol. ratio is pref. 0.5 : 1 to 10 : 1. Side-reactions, e.g. polymerisation or isomerisation of 2-butene and catalyst deactivation by polymers, are prevented. Solvents easily dissolve any polymers and oligomers formed and remove them from catalyst surface. Process can be carried out for a long time at 100 degrees C and yields ethylene and 2-butene at constant rates. Solvents can be recoverd and re-used. Reaction velocity, catalyst activity and selectivity are improved. E.g. use of n-heptane in vol. ratio solvent/ C3H6 = 4 at LHSV 50, 80 degrees C, 50 atmos., improved max. C3H6 conversion from 25- to 46%, selectivity to ethylene and butene from 95- to 99% and ratio butene/ethylene from 1.65 to 0.995. |
