titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR REDUCING THE CONTENT OF RESIDUAL MONOMERS IN POLYMERS
abstract The amt. of residual monomers, esp. vinyl monomers, remaining as residues after polymerisation in the polymerisation plant and in the polymers produced, afte the essential part of the residual monomers wre refilled into the storage container is reduced by treating the polymerisate with chlorine or chlorine contg. or chlorine forming agents at temps. in the range 0 to 80 degrees C pref. from 45 to 75 degrees C. Pref. the treatment is effected in the presence of water or under moist conditions. The treatment can also be carried out during the drying of the polymer or on the dry polymer. The reaction of the monomer is in part very complete even in the monomers in the interior of granules and the reaction prod. with chlorine can be easily removed from the reaction bath and the appts.
