Catalytic hydrogenation of nitro cpds. to amines in the spray phase over a stationary catalyst is improved by using a catalyst having particles with a dia. of 0.5-3 mm (pref. 1.5-2.5 mm) in the form of spheres (pref.) cylinders, extruded bodies, granules or flakes. The catalyst pref. contains Pd and/or Pt opt. with V (pref. Pt and V) on a carrier such as alumina (pref.), silica, or aluminosilicate, a spinel, magnesia, baryte or active carbon. The catalyst has long service life (>10,000 k), and there is no encrustation on the catalyst particles. |
