titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR EXTRACTION, ISOLATION AND CLEANING OF PREPARATIONS WITH UTERO-EVACUATING EFFECT FROM THE ZOAPATL PLANT |
abstract | Process for extracting prepns. with uterus-evacuating activity from zoapatl plants comprises (i) extracting plant parts at high temp. with water; (ii) recovering the aq. extract phase and (iii) treating with a water immiscible solvent to separate at least some of the active cpds. Alternatively the plant is first extracted with the solvent and the extract treated, after separation from the solid residue, with water. Also claimed are the purified active ingredients; cpd. (I) having NMR peaks in COCl3 relative to TMS 6.11, 5.48; 4.25; 4.13; 3.56; 2.11; 2.08; 1.48; 1.13 and 1.01 ppm and IR spectrum 2.90; 5.96 and 6.21 mu and cpd. (II) with NMR 5.41; 4.26; 4.15; 3.58; 3.18; 2.18; 1.76; 1.67; 1.15 and 1.04 ppm and IR 2.91 and 5.88 mu. The crude extracts can be purified e.g. by chromatography on vinyl acetate copolymers. The prepns. are used to induce menstruation; abortion; labour; discharge of the placenta etc. Crude infusions of the plants have been used for centuries in Mexico for these purposes. |
