abstract Textiles composed of or contg. cellulose are printed by application thereto of a paste contg. (a) an alkaline soln. of a coupling component appropriate for printing with development dyes, (b) a dispersion of an amine appropriate for the prepn. of development dyes, (c) sodium nitrite and (d) a thickened, inducing formation of the dyestuff on the fibre by steaming in acid medium or by application of an aq. dil. soln. of an organic acid having a min. solubility in water of 30g/100g water, a pK value of 4-2.5 at 20 degrees C and a b. pt, at atmos. press. >175 degrees C, and then steaming using neutral steam or drying rapidly. The simple and economic process allows the use of two different coupling components or two different amines to obtain interesting colour possibilities, e.g. using pastes contg. sol. dyes derived from sulphuric leuco-ester of vat dyes combined with sol. Vat Blue I, C. I. No. 73002, the indigo of the African print and batik print can be initiated.
