titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING HIGHLY PURE VALUE-VALUE CYANIC ACID ESTERS |
abstract | Process for mfg. multivalent, aromatic cyanic acid esters by the reaction of alkali and/or alkaline eart-salts (I) of aromatic di- or poly-hydroxy cpds. with halogen cyanides in the presence of solvents, the novelty being that (a) salts (I) are obtd. in a conventional manner, where an excess of =0.1 mol. % of alkali- or alkaline earth-cpds. can be reacted with the di- or poly-hydroxy cpds., (b) the reaction with the halogen cyanide, possibly in the presence of catalytic amts. of a tertiary amine, uses the cyanide in excess of the sum of the number of phenolate groups and the surplus inorganic bases arising from the phenolate prodn. and any tertiary amine cpd. employed. Prodn. of aromatic cyanic esters with high purity and high yield, for mfg. plastics, e.g. polytriazines with high mol. wt. for fibre reinforced plastics, casting resins, adhesives or surface coatings. |
