| abstract | The perchlorophenoxyacetic acid salt of 6-amino-2-methylheptanol (I) is new: (I) is used as a cough remedy. It induces the elimination of irritant cough and also has a soothing effect on the pharynx, bronchi and cough mechanism. It relieves both convulsive and catarrhal cough. (I) is almost as active as codeine hydrochloride but is not of opiate origin, and has LD50 (mouse) is 2.5g/kg. (I) is pref. administered orally, e.g. as tablets, syrup, cough sweets. |
