titleOfInvention METHOD OF MANUFACTURING SOFTENED AMINOPLASTIC PLASTIC RESIN FOAMS
abstract Prepn. of plasticised amino resin foams takes place in presence of glycerine and, as strong proton donors, acid materials having pH values in aq. soln. about 2.0, pref. 0.8, used in amt. 0.5-10 wt.%, pref. 2-5 wt.% relative to the amino resin precondensate. Medium to strong organic acids, inorganic acids or urea adducts of inorganic acids are used. HCl, HNO3 or H2SO4 are claimed. Glycerine is used in quantities of 10-50 wt.% pref. 15-35 wt.% relative to the resin precondensate, which contains 10-90 wt.% pref. 30-60 wt.% of solid resin. The volume ratio of resin soln. to proton donor soln. is about 1:1 to 2:1 and the total amt. of water is 2-5 times the total solids. The plasticised foams have a low moisture content and low shrinkage, and may be used as thermal or sound insulation. They may be ground to coarse or fine powders or granules, as an adsorption base for technical, pharmaceutical or cosmetic purposes.
