titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF GLASS-LIKE, POROUS BODIES IN THE FORM OF GRANULES OR FOAM GLASS |
abstract | Process for mfg. vitreous porous bodies in the form of a granulate of hollow spheres or a cellular entity in the form of foamed glass comprises heating glass powders with different softening pt. (s.pt), due to their compsns. with addns. e.g. lampblack, which form the expansion or foaming gases. Prior to heating, oxide matls. with high m.pt. esp. natural and synthetic silicates with size 0-0.1 mm, are added to the glass powders in the ratio 0.1-3.5:5 so that either (a) on heating glass with softening pt. 700 degrees C. the oxidic matls. are coated with a thin layer of gas and are not wetted so, after cooling, the hollow glass spheres can be sepd. or (b) for glass with softening pt. 700 degrees C. sulphides are also added, esp. 0.05-2.5 VS so the complete mixt. forms a cellular glass entity. Process allows the inexpensive mfr. of hollow glass spheroids or faomed glass moulding suitable e.g. for thermal insulation. |
