abstract |
Method for feeding solid raw materials using a process gas through a hollow-electrode into a closed electrothermic reduction furnace. The delivery of solid materials is interrupted whenever the process gas press. at the electrode outlet exceeds a given percentage of its supply press., whilst the process gas continues to be supplied. The feature claimed is that the quantity of solid material fed through the electrode is varied as a function of the press. of the gas at the electrode outlet provided that the hearth resistance is increasing or remains constant. The material feed rate is automatically controlled to maintain optimum conditions in the furnace, thus maximising output for given consumptions of power, electrode material etc. A high proportion of the total feed to the furnace can be achieved through the electrodes. |
