titleOfInvention | METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A PROPYLENE-TETRAFLUORAETHYLENE COPOLYMER |
abstract | A propylene (I), tetrafluoroethylene (II) copolymer opt. contg. another monomer is pepd. by copolymsg. the monomer in an aq. medium at 0-50 degrees C in the presence of redox catalyst system composed of a water soluble persulphate (III), a water soluble thiosulphate or bisulphite, (IV) and (the novelty) a water soluble iron salt (V). Copolymers with low Mooney viscosity (40-150) and high mol.wt. e.g. 80,000-300,000 are easily prepd. at low temp. and high reaction rate. The vulcanisates are elastomeric, easily moulded under compression, have high tensile strength, heat and chemical resistance and are esp. useful for moulding matls. The mol. ratios of (I):(II) is pref. 10:90-30:70 and of (III):(IV):(V) (0.1-2):10:(0.005-0.5). Copolymsn. is pref. varried out at 10-45 degrees C, under a pressure of 100 kg./-cm2 above atmos.pressure, at pH 7.0-11.0 in the presence of 0.001-5wt.% redox catalyst system. |
