abstract Dipeptide derivs. of formula (I) (where R1 and R2 are H or 1-3C alkyl or R1+R2 is an additional C-C bond; R3 is H or 1-3C alkyl; and Z is NH or a gp. -NH-CO-, -CR4R5-S- or -CR4R5-O- in which R4 and R5 are H or 1-3C alkyl) e.g crotyl-histidyl prolinamide, and their salts with pharmaceutically utilisable acids are new cpds. (I) have biological activity qualitatively and quantitatively similar to that of thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) but with longer duration of action adn rapid onset after oral or parenteral administration (e.g. ca 10 mins. after parental administration). The chief pharmacological effect is an amphetamine-like central stimulant action. Toxicity is very low. (I) can thus be used as psychostimulants or antidepressants.
